For Immediate Release

Republican Immigration Congressional Hearings Neglects
Indigenous Border Communities

The Alianza Indigena Sin Fronteras, an Indigenous
human/civil rights organization and community partners
invite you to an Indigenous press conference to bring
attention to the negligence of the Republican's
Congressional hearings to include Southern Border Indigenous
issues in the National Immigration Debate being conducted
around the Southwest.

The U.S. government's anti-immigrant legislation and border
enforcement policies continue to divide indigenous
communities, from California, Arizona and Texas. There are
eight Indian Nations that have relatives in Mexico and their
cultural counter parts in Mexico are profoundly affected by
enforcement policies and have difficulty in obtaining the
necessary travel documents enter the United States.

Debates about illegal immigration into the U.S., border
surveillance, and national security are prominent in today’s
media. Yet, they have overshadowed the border issues
particular to indigenous border communities. We invite you
to participate in our discussion so that the understanding
of border issues can be discussed to their fullest capacity
and by all communities affected by these issues.

Panel Members will individual members from the Kumeyaay
Nation from Southern California, Pascua Yaqui Tribe, Tohono
O'Odham Nation, Cocopah Nation and Gila River Indian
Community and American Friend Service Committee.
